Dwell Time

The length of time a key on the keyboard is pressed. This is an element of the keystroke dynamics biometric factor.

Characteristics of any person that can be used to identify or authenticate the person. Physiological biometric methods include fingerprints, face scans, retina scans, iris scans, palm scans, hand geometry, and voice patterns. Behavioral biometric methods include signature dynamics and keystroke patterns.

A form of electronic signatures which involves the biometric recording of the pen dynamics used in signing the document. When used as a biometric, the use of the pattern and speed of a person writing their signature to establish identity or provide authentication.

The act of recording the keystrokes a user performs on a physical keyboard. The act of recording can be visual (such as with a video recorder) or logical/ technical (such as with a capturing hardware device or a software program).

A comparison metric for different biometric devices and technologies; the error rate at which FAR equals FRR. The lower the CER, the more accurate and reliable the biometric device. The point at which the false acceptance rate (FAR) equals the false rejection rate (FRR). This is the point from which performance is measured in order to compare the capabilities of different biometric devices.
